If you’re like me, you’re probably a sucker for Eat, Pray, Love and Eat is your favorite part. Just imagine traveling to Italy and eating different kinds of pizza and pasta dishes, heavenly right? if you want to have that kind of experience without going out of the country, you should go to Pizzeria Michelangelo in Cebu.
Location, Atmosphere, Customer Service
The restaurant has two branches in Cebu. One in Escario Central in Escario St. and another one in 1 Paseo Saturnino, Ma. Luisa, Banilad. We went to 1 Paseo Saturnino Branch.
If love at first sight is true, that’s what I experienced the first time I got a glimpse of Pizzeria Michelangelo. I’m a love fool for the Italian Manager, Andrea :p restaurant. The place had a warm and cozy atmosphere that’s similar to what was described in the book Eat, Pray, Love. The kitchen is open, so you can see the staff in action. The servers were so accommodating. They greeted us with smiles and gave us a table and asked for our order right away. Also, managers Chef Massimo and Andrea welcomed us personally.
It’s Mangiare Time!
When we looked at the menu, we couldn’t decide what to order. Everything in the menu looks so yum (and affordable!). So Andrea ordered for us. We had carbonara, a 15” Pesto Pizza and a 15” Robertino Pizza (Mozzarella cheese, Parmesan Cheese, Bacon, Eggs, Farmer’s Ham, Arugula). Their Carbonara is TO. DIE. FOR! It’s the best carbonara I’ve ever tasted. The pasta was al dente and it’s not swimming in the ocean of white sauce. The white sauce was not too thick and it smells and tastes so good. Just the way I like it. The Pesto and Robertino Pizza were also delish. Both have the authentic Italian flavor, because of the spices that were used. It was my first time to eat Arugula and I was surprised because it really tastes good with Pizza. You may not like it at first because it’s a bit bitter, but later on you’ll love it.
Also, Chef Massimo told us they use high-quality ingredients from here and abroad. So if you compare the price of their food to regular restaurants that serve Pizza and Pasta, their price is higher. However, their price is lower compared to other Italian restaurants, because they get some of the ingredients from the local farmers.
Travels, Food, Fun & Laughter
What made me love Pizzeria Michelangelo even more was their accommodating managers, Chef Massimo and Andrea. The two sat down with us and talked about Italian cuisine, life in Italy and their travels. They also invited us to attend their Italian cooking class the next day (more about this in my next entry) and introduced us to their Big Boss, the King of Pawnshops himself, Michel J. Lhuillier, who gave each one of us, a bag of easter egg chocolates.
All-in-all, our dining experience at Pizzeria Michelangelo was excellent and worth 5 star ratings. Our taste buds and hungry tummies were satisfied and we learned a lot about Italian cuisine.
