Davao City local government will ones again compete for 2014 Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Cities Municipalities under the Highly Urbanized Category.
The city was rewarded the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance last Monday. Thus, serving as the city’s official nomination to the Presidential Award.
The Council for the Welfare of children (CWC) presented the award to the City Administrator Melchor V. Quitain.
The Presidential Award for the Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities pursuant to Executive Order 184 entitled “Establishing the Presidential Award for the Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities” is initiated by the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) issued on December 13, 1999.
It is given to deserving local government units in recognition of their vital role in promotion of children’s rights to survival, development, protection and participation as well as in ensuring child-friendly governance.
In a phone interview, Davao City Social Services and Development Office assistant head Liwayway Caligdong said the city is preparing their records for the validation by the National Award Committee on January 20 to 23.
The city won the Presidential Award for Child-Friendly City in 1998, 1999 and last 2013
