A photo showing Vice President Jejomar Binay thrusting food into a young girl’s mouth using his bare hand during his signature “boodle fight” has caused an early morning uproar in the social media.
The photo posted by John Paulo Melanio Bañas was immediately flooded with comments expressing disgust and anger over what netizens called was an act of hypocrisy.
Comments ranged from concerns about the child’s welfare considering that it was unhygienic for Binay to use his hand to feed the child during the boodle fight to condemnation of the insincerity of the act.
Totally disgusted by the photo, I also commented: “this is the height of hypocrisy. i will not even feed my own child using my bare hands because it is unhygienic. but for the selfish purpose of creating a good photo op, vp binay endangers this child’s health by using his bare hand, which he obviously used earlier to feed himself, to thrust food into the innocent girl’s mouth. this is utterly disgusting.”
Binay, whose popularity has taken a nose-dive in recent surveys because of his alleged involvement in multi-billion peso acts of corruption in Makati City where he served as Mayor, has been making rounds of the country visiting places frequented by the poor.
In public markets, he joins ordinary people in partaking of food laid out in a long table, called by soldiers as “boodle fight.”
He also visits almost every funeral parlour during his provincial sorties giving out financial assistance to the families of the dead.
Binay’s acts, however, have been described by observers as a desperate attempt to try to improve his survey numbers.
