A new generation of global fashion design denizens, rooted in local culture, heritage and identity, presented their fearless vision of things to come in a fashion show dubbed TRIBUTE held at the Activity Center of Abreeza Ayala Mall last March 25.
TRIBUTE is an annual fashion graduation show of Philippine Womens Colleges of Davao Fashion Design for both College and Senior High.
Fashion’s biggest names Project Runway Philippines winner Aries Lagat, Manila Fashion Festival’s Ronnie Cruz and Bench Fashion Awards winner Jaggy Glarino served as members of the panel of judges.
Senior High undergrads, Senior High graduates, and College undergraduates presented their designs and collections. Each set left our jaws on the floor.
College graduates unveiled their garment collections. I’m always hungry for fresh meat, and they sure fed me well. Good job!
Here are a few of my personal picks.
Of course, the showcase wouldn’t be complete without handing out the major award. Marlaw Novitsky Tamayo (Senior High) and Bea Abrigo (College) took home the Designer of the Year Award bacon with their innovative designs that had us at first glance.
I’m hoping these fashion greenhorns take over the global scene too very soon. I love homegrown talent, which is why it was also fitting to show love to these fresh new talents have to offer as they make their debut into the world of fashion.
CONGRATULATIONS!
