Globe has partnered with the largest city in the Philippines, Davao City, to deliver reliable connectivity through GoWiFi and KonekTayo WiFi services. This aims to keep residents safe, informed, and connected as reliance on the Internet for day-to-day activities grows rapidly.
This milestone partnership marks the first presence of Globe’s technology in Davao that solidifies the support of the major telco to the highly-urbanized city with top industry-grade and innovative services. It is the company’s broader plan to serve Filipinos with accessible and affordable means of communication.
“We remain steadfast and focused on the vision of the city government to fulfill a better and more connected Davao City, and enable the efficient delivery of services to its people through accessible and affordable internet services,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO in a relayed message. “We also continue to amplify our efforts to support Davao City in its digital transformation journey.”
In a recorded video, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said, “Truly, the future is online, and it is for this reason that we are grateful for internet service providers like Globe for ensuring that the people of Davao are in step with the rest of the world and that we are on track towards progress and development in the rise of the digital age.”
Through GoWiFi, Globe will power up Davao City Hall and Davao City People’s Park to allow staff members and the general public to conduct essential online activities conveniently and remain connected for free. GoWiFi, the largest WiFi service in the country, is currently accessible in over 3,100 locations nationwide and available to all users regardless of network provider.
“It is our great pleasure at Globe to bring and fulfill our core mission of creating wonderful experiences for Dabawenyos.. to have choices, overcome challenges, and discover new ways to enjoy life. We are fortunate to have the support and close partnership of the local government and we look forward to making further, steady steps to build on our fruitful partnership in the years to come,” said Issa Guevarra-Cabreira, Globe’s Chief Commercial Officer.
The presence of Globe’s GoWiFi and KonekTayo services are valuable for Dabawenyos who rely on a stable internet connection to work, to learn, to access healthcare, to communicate, and to access essential services.
“We are one with Globe in improving the lives of Dabawenyos by making reliable connectivity available in their homes and businesses,” said Vice-Mayor Baste Duterte. “The local government has always been thankful for the contribution of the private sector in ensuring the welfare of the city and the Dabawenyos. Let us continue working to meet the rising demand for connectivity across the country.”
On the other hand, Globe KonekTayo WiFi, a public community WiFi data service, will be deployed in Bucana, Sasa, and SIR Village 1 and 2. By going to any KonekTayo hotspot, community residents can connect to the internet at speeds of up to 20 Mbps for an affordable cost.
Engaging more communities through KonekTayo is also part of Globe’s larger commitment to support digital learning while the students cannot physically go to school.
Globe will also hold ambassadorship training for the Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) for the four communities to educate the youth on digital citizenship and the responsible use of technology through workshops and modules. This ensures that communities provided access to the internet are informed on how to act responsibly when online and to protect themselves and their loved ones from numerous risks and threats present on the internet.
Globe supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 9, which highlights the importance of infrastructure and innovation as significant drivers of economic growth and development. Globe has pledged to advocate the United Nations Global Compact principles and 10 UN SDGs.
