As the company celebrates September 16 and 17 as somewhat of a tribute to its well-known mobile number prefixes “0916 and “0917,” Globe takes part in the Social Good Summit as the event’s major sponsor.

The two-day summit—organized by Rappler, Microsoft, and the Global Center for Journalism and Democracy—dubbed as “PH+SocialGood: Manila #2030NOW” examines the the role of technology and new media in addressing difficult challenges that the country faces, including the area of disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).

The summit will talk about how technology is used to deal with climate change and the impact it leaves behind; the way businesses can transform and empower women; how efforts to collapse the digital divide are helping bring the internet to everyone; and finally, how we can ensure no casualties when the next typhoon hits the country.

Globe has a commitment to its stakeholders that it is ready to respond to any incident. In the aftermath of Super Typhoon Haiyan, for instance, Globe was quick to respond to the emergency through partial restoration of communications services within just two days. Globe has also been very active in helping communities affected by disasters through efforts such as Libreng Tawag and charging stations and relief operations. The company is currently the development sponsor of Aklan, one of the 14 provinces severely hit by Super Typhoon Haiyan in November last year.  Through the project “Bulig 4 Aklan,” Globe has committed to provide education, housing, health, and livelihood assistance to seven affected towns, namely:  Libacao, Madalag, Banga, Batan, Altavas, Balete, New Washington.

Globe is the first telecommunication company in the Philippines to achieve 100% 3G coverage for its entire network, and by the end of the third quarter, 100% of its network will be equipped with 4G HSPA+ technology, enabling Globe users across the country to experience seamless, high-speed internet connectivity.
